How To Get Into The Sinkhole In The Forest
Endnight Games' The Forest is an intense survival horror game where you play Eric LeBlanc, a father who crashes on a dangerous island with his son. Right after, a cutscene triggers where Eric’s son, Timmy, is being taken by cannibals while he’s barely conscious. From there, players need to survive on the island and look for Timmy, all while dealing with frightening enemies.

The Sinkhole is a massive pit at the center of the peninsula. To move forward, players need to find a way into the Sinkhole and explore its cave for clues about Timmy. However, getting down is no easy feat since the Sinkhole is incredibly deep, and jumping straight in would be deadly. This guide will show you how to get into the Sinkhole in The Forest.

Sinkhole Location In The Forest
Finding the Sinkhole is simple if you have the Map and Compass. Players who don’t have these items yet can look for them in the Hanging Cave near the main cannibal village. After dying once, you'll respawn in that cave automatically. However, you can also find it on the southeastern side of the peninsula.

Once you have the map, press ‘M’ to open it. Then, equip the compass by hitting the ‘I’ button and selecting it from there. With both things in hand, turn north (there’s an up arrow on the compass to show you), and keep walking in that direction until you reach the Sinkhole. You can also get there without a map. Just look for the snowy mountains, visible from any open area. Since they’re to the north, head that way to find the Sinkhole.
How To Get Into The Sinkhole In The Forest
While it may seem tricky, there are several ways to get into the Sinkhole in The Forest, including the following:
Using The Glider
One of the fastest (and safest) methods to get to the bottom of the Sinkhole is by using the Glider. Players can craft it after finding the Glider Schematic (or Blueprint) in an underwater cave near the shipping containers. After grabbing the blueprint, go to the Sinkhole and build the Glider using these materials:
- 6 Bone
- 8 Rabbit Fur
- 8 Rope
- 2 Arm
- 1 Head
- 32 Stick
Once you have it, equip the Glider by pressing ‘E.’ Then, jump into the Sinkhole and use the ‘S’ and ‘W’ keys to control your direction. If you feel unstable, press ‘G’ to let go, but only when you're close to the ground to avoid a hard landing.

Entering The Sinkhole Cave
Another way to reach the bottom of the Sinkhole is by going through the nearby Sinkhole Cave. Look for the cave entrance near a white tent and a view of the northern mountains. Once inside, the cave leads to a lower part of the Sinkhole that's not as deep as the ledge above but still pretty high. From there, carefully hop across the rocks to reach the ground.
There are cannibals around and at the depth of the Sinkhole, so keep your weapons ready as you head there.
Equipping The Turtle Shell

Turtle Shells are great for sliding down hills in The Forest, and they work just as well for getting into the Sinkhole. You can find one by hunting turtles along the beach on the southern coastline. Once you have a shell, head to the Sinkhole, take it out from your inventory, and equip it by jumping and left-clicking on the screen. Since the shell can be unequipped quickly, you'll want to begin sliding down as soon as you use it. Just be sure to ride the walls with the shell instead of diving straight in.
Crafting The Free Standing Zip-Line
Players can also reach the end of the Sinkhole using a Free Standing Zip-Line. First, open the Survival Book, select the Zip-Line from the Utility section, and start crafting it with logs and ropes. Normally, you need 10 logs and three ropes to set up the Free Standing Zip-Line, but this time, you’ll need more rope due to the extra distance it needs to cover across the Sinkhole. When setting it up, place one Zip-Line stand on one side of the Sinkhole and the other on the opposite side. Next, go to the first stand, press ‘E’ to hang, and swing toward the middle of the Sinkhole. When you’re above the pond, hit ‘E’ to release.
Since timing is crucial, make sure to jump only when you see the water so you don’t land on the rocks.

Sliding Down Into The Sinkhole
Lastly, you can get into the Sinkhole in The Forest by sliding down the rocks. It might seem complicated and even dangerous at first, but you can avoid most of the damage by sticking close to the rocks. To begin, head to the north side of the Sinkhole. Then, slide down while facing the rocky wall and pressing the ‘W’ key. Jump when needed. If your health drops, use Meds or a Health Mix to heal fast.
